I first heard about BF heroes about a week after the first beta (Spring 2008). It seemed to me that it would be a crazy good game, but i was dissapointed that I would have to wait to play it (Release date constantly changing). And of course I would try in vain to get a beta key through contests in Summer '08, but eventually I got into the second beta, when you could apply for a key.
First impression: My first thought was that this game is dominated by people with lots of Hero Points. In the second beta, the matchmaking system really didnt work, as I was a lvl 1, and most of the people I was playing with or against were above lvl 8 (The other team even had a lvl 24), but, I still managed to enjoy myself. Luckily this has been fixed in the public release of the game. Graphics: I really like the cell shaded cartooney look of BF heroes, its a nice change of pace from other more serious games. Sound: Sounds are cartooney and again hilarious, I really enjoy them. Music: The main theme is catchy, but I would like more soundtracks (Maybe different ones for different menus) Controls: Easy & Simple to learn. No crazy key mashing required, or rediculus combinations of keys to carry out simple tasks. Vehicles: Seem to be well balenced, Jeeps are quick, tanks are slow and well armored. I really would like to see the plane carry a small bomb that would slowly recharge over time. (Better way to take out tanks) The planes seem realitivly useless in there current role (Besides wingclipping that is) . Some form of water vehicle would also be cool, and open the door to new stratagies and attacks.Store: I dont really like how the permanent clothing that is bought with Battlefunds costs so much, and how the cheaper version simply expires. You really cant customise much on your character withought access to paypal, or a credit card, and in this worldwide economic recession, people are going to try to cut back on spending. I realise you have to make money somewhere, but you could have SOME items, (like basic helmets, gloves) have a reduced (permenant) price, but keep specality items, such as ammo belts, at there current price. Overall, this is a very good game, and with some minor adjustments, it could be even better. ![]() ALSO: Lan support would be great, the ability to connect with ONLY your friends in Bf heroes using Hamachi (Software that allows direct lan connection over the internet)(All that would need to be added was a "Create Local" and "Join Local". Hamachi would take care of the rest.

I first heard of Battlefield Heroes when i saw it in a magazine. I almost immediatly dedicated my life to play this game. So i registered. Well i can recall that the 1st closed beta was a mess of nagging people. So i just thought "Meh. I can wait". In the 2nd closed beta i tried to apply for a beta key but didn't receive it. But now that the open beta's out, i didn't care about that anymore.
First impressions: "Awesome! Battlefield for free, customizable Characters and Match Making (although that one's a bit out of control ^^; )!" Graphics: The graphics don't change the game in any positive/negative way. They're comical and don't chew on your hardware like crazy. Gameplay (This is a long one...) : When a new character is created there are two factions/armies and three classes: Armies: The Royal Army and the National Army Classes: Soldier (Allrounder), Gunner (Heavy weapons guy) and Commando (Sniper) Depending on which class is chosen the game play differently: As a Soldier you have the access to SMGs, shotguns, explosives and pistols. As a Gunner you have access to Heavy Machine Guns, shotguns and explosives. As a Commando you have access to a class-exclusive knife, a sniper rifle, explosives. The differences between the Royal and National Armies are, other than different looks, nonexistent In-game BFH is a basic shooter. There are those typical moves like jump, sidestep, crouch and special abilities that differ for each class. Soldiers, for example, have a ability called "Combat Medicine" which heals the surrounding team members, while Gunners can chuck explosive barrels to shoot and Commandos can render themselves invisible as long as an enemy isn't close. Also the characters can level up which rewards you, every 2nd level, with a Hero Point which you can use to strengthen your character's abilities. There is a shop too where you cna buy weapons, widgets and clothing to support your character. There are also missions which you can accomplish for extra VP (Valor Points, the standard currency of the game) Controls: The controls are fine, with every basic move and a emote menu, which allows to execute emotions. Sound/Music: Besides one track (The Battlefield Heroes Theme) there's no music. The sounds are ok and they don't tend to get annoying after hearing them for 10000 times in a row. Conclusion: Battlefield Heroes is a game that stays true to it's word and is a blessing for any Shooter fan! You can't buy weapons with BF (Battle Funds, the "real-money" currency of the game) which balances it out perfectly. A recommendation for everyone who likes a good game with some RPG elements! "Respect the community and the community respects you!" So here's a salute for everyone who goes through the effort of reading my posts

The good:
A fun game with a great sense of humor and its not bloody either. The cartoony style is very stylish and very funny. Low system specs, now that is something we need more of in the gaming industry, games that don't require too much of your computer. The bad: Since this is a beta, there are a few bugs, both ingame and on the website itself. The biggest one is the infamous card verification error, even if you have saved your card before the error popped up, you still won't be able to buy any Battlefunds, a lot of people are having this problem and they are demanding that this error be fixed real quick. There are too few maps that allow you to fly airplanes and some of them are not that pretty to look at. Some of the Battlefunds items are a bit too expensive, it may scare some people from buying Battlefunds. What could be done: If you fix all of the bugs, add a few new maps and maybe lower the prices on some of the Battlefunds items, more people would buy them. Also, a few more weapons would be nice, maybe a mortar and the like. In conclusion: Battlefield Heroes is a fun online shooter that has a lovely sense of humor and funny character design, it is really addicting too. This game should go in a top ten list of best free online games. |

My review consists 5 factors that surround every aspect in the game.
Each factor is detailed by a few words and a score system of X/10. Quick Review: Battlefield Heroes is an online 3rd person shooting game for the casual gamer. Heroes holds of a ranking system based on levels which the player gains ONLY by playing , thus making the game a pure shooting game. Heroes suits each and every kind of a player within every range of ages. Gameplay: BF:H gives the player a serious gameplay of a 1st person shooter but also adds the fun and freedom of a 3rd person shooter that way the game gives the player a very unique gameplay that suits to a large range of players. Heroes is a quick paced - 'get-ready-for-action' game that delivers the player lots of action within a short period of time. Heroes gives the player a great sense of the online world he's playing in with adding friends or joining groups. The gameplay is not perfectly polished yet and there are a few bugs and glitches that needed to be fixed. Score: 8.5/10 Graphics: Heroes has a unique cartoonish graphics system that is favorite by many players. The unique graphics of the game really suits the gameplay and adds a unique dimension to it. Although the graphics are really nice, 'ragdoll' or any other more complex physics system wasn't added to the game. That kind of a system could greatly increase the graphics realism and add a more realistic dimension to the game (The game is meant for low-performance computers so I understand that, but still...). Score: 8/10 Sound & Music: Heroes delivers the player a great dimension of sound. The player can even feel in the WW2 if he puts the volume to max. The weapons' sounds are pretty accurate, tanks, jeeps and planes really sound nice, and the other sounds really fits the unique gameplay. The game lacks of nature and atmosphere sounds (waves, wind, birds, etc.) that greatly affect the gameplay. Score: 9/10 Interface: The interface of BF:H is really great, comfortable and 'easy'-to-use. The opacity and brightness of the interface is just perfect for a smooth gameplay. The first drawback of the interface is the admin messages. Sometimes in a server, 3,4 admin messages (yellow on the mid-left) block the line of sight, making it a bit harder to play. The second drawback is the HP bar, the blue with the white stroke is sometimes not noticeable by the bright colors of the maps, that makes it difficult for players to act in the right way. Score: 9.5/10 In-Game Data: Heroes is a WW2 online shooting game, and the data is based on that. The maps perfectly match the old Europe and that adds a really realistic dimension to the game. The data in the game is VERY limited, the current data can be boring for the player and new maps, weapons, vehicles and appearance items must be added in the near future and they won't hurt the equality of the factions and classes. Score: 6.5/10 - The low score is not permanent, I know that new data will be added in the future after fixing some more important issues, but still, the current data worth this score. Summary: Battlefield Heroes really delivers a great, unique & fun gameplay to the player. The Pureness of the game in the gameplay, ranking system, equality of classes/factions and other-smaller things is just AMAZING and I haven't seen that level of pureness in a shooting game for a long time. The makers of Heroes did a great job mixing the good things of both 1st and 3rd person shooting games to create a unique gameplay plus using that kind of graphics and online system makes Heroes a great game to play for any kind of a gamer. General Score: 9 -The general score is not an average of the parameters. |

I don't remember exactly when I had first heard about this game, but it was at least six months ago. I have been following the progress of it for some time, waiting and waiting for it to be open to the public (failing to sign up for beta). The idea of a free, high quality, online 3rd person shooter was too appealing to not take part of.
Since signing up my impressions of the game have been positive overall. The graphics complement the lighthearted humour of the game. And though i keep hearing how they are a rip off of Team Fortress 2, I have never played the game so I can't complain, and won't. The only time that the graphics themselves seem to impede upon the performance of the game itself is weapon & unit identification. Also, there is the random clipping issue, as well as trees or buildings completely blocking your view, though this is more issues with the camera. Personally I do not play online games of any kind. EVER. They are addicting, and also I cannot stand the online culture that comes with it. One of the most irritating things to deal with is when you are trying to play a game, and you are constantly being barraged by an army of 12 year olds constantly calling you a "f**king noob" over and over, or some odd sexual reference. Even though I've heard arguments against it, the one thing I love about this game is the LACK of online communication while playing this game, just the bare basics. There's hardly any goading, teasing, people wasting time calling each other obscure crap I've never heard of. Just people shooting each other endlessly. The leveling system, though slow, seems to work just fine. Though I do find it odd that there are somehow people running around that are magically level 30 when the game has just started and yet I can barely crawl up to level 10. And that's where I have my issue with the ability to level up with money. I understand completely that this game needs to make money somehow, but offering the ability to level up characters at 150% rate for cash seems a little off balance to me. Trying to get out of a game to either see if your friends are playing, get new missions, or try and be rematched with some players that are actually ON your skill level (not above) is too much of a hassle. There should be a smoother way of trying to either add some of these functions in game, or just getting in and out of a server. That's almost everything I can think of right now. Like I said earlier overall I love this game and try to play it every day. |

Great overall game, love the maps, and very good graphics for this type of game. However, the weapons are almost all the same. I could use some more weapons and a new gameplay mode. Also, we need some more costumes for the common player who is not financed by real money. Thank you for providing such a great game to curb my boredom!

Hello everyone. I am MrScientific as some of you might know. Anyway, I have a few up's
and down's . I have enjoyed the game tremendously and highly recommend this beautiful game for all types of gamers.I first heard of the game a few months after the first ever site came up. However, I was not a person who went on the forum much and only went on to see if the game was released or not. I few months later I recieved my beta by signing up with the "form". My first thought of the game was "Wow, Battlefield 3 is finally out!!!"... only to relize it was not Battlefield 3 and was just another EA/DICE game. I have always loved the Battlefield series and really wanted to play... The up's ![]() 1. I love the figures of the game. There is nothing better than running around with a funny, fully customized cartoon charicter. 2. Even though I cannot play on High Quality due to my system specs, I still think the graphics were very good. 3. The whole community built into the game is wonderful. Having a fully operating forum on the site with loads of kind, wacky people is very pleasing. 4. Everything is in one. What I mean when I say that is that all what you need is on the site. The forum, the leaderboard, the store and most importantly the "game button(launcher)". The down's ![]() 1. I think the release date has been way to late. Even though I have a beta key I still have sympathy for the people who don't and should have had an experience of the game a year ago. 2. More servers! I, coming from South Africa, haven't actually had a real experience of the game since there are no server any where in Africa. every game I have played I have to shoot infront of the person just so I can hit him. 3. Lag. Basically the same point as above. 4. BF's are way to over priced. I would buy them if I don't have to pay like $3 for a shirt... 5. Why aren't settings accessable in-game? In every game I have played I could access the settings in-game. If I get in a game and find my sensitivity is to high and I want to change it, I have to exit the whole game change it, then try find my game I was on before. "O wait! My settings are still wrong", then the process repeats. It would also be very nice if we could change our missions from in side a game. 6. It gets very boring using the same abilties over again. Maybe it would be cool if you added more abilities and levels. When you get to level 30 lots of people will think they have done there part and stop playing the game(thank goodness I play the game for fun and not levels). Besides that. The music is fine. The graphics are fine. The gameplay is fine(besides the un-accessible settings part). Look, don't take it wrongly, I love the game and will keep playing it! It is just someone has got to tell you the down's in the game. Look forward to some interesting game. Signed by MrScientific

+addictive leveling
+community friendliness (groups, firends etc.) +great mix of several genres' elements -too less rewards for good performance, especially for reaching higher levels -the errors/bugs -missions,some are just impossible,so it becomes pointless when easier ones are done A very good game, which is also free, and if U really like it U can have more fun,not more power, when buying,i.e. with emotes or funny costumes 9/10

I think this game is awsome but it needs a language filter so younger people can play so there parents dont have worry about them playing a game with language.
I would also like too see more maps and guns to choose from so it has more play time.

I think that with the slight issue of having a very migre selection of appearance items available to those of us who don't have money for battelfunds it is overall an excellent game in all respects

Where to begin? I've said many things in the forums over the past several months, and now I have to try and recall them.
First, BFH is simply a tremendously fun game. Even with the limited maps at the time of this posting (only 4, can't wait for more and the metagame!) it has become my #1 FPS game over BF2, 2142, and the CoD series. The graphics and cartoonish world are instant winners. It's difficult to say if the player matching system is working correctly. The game has put me up against both players much better and much worse than me, so I guess it evens out. But even if it's not working 100%, the idea of player matcing is a good one to achieve a sort of game balance. On the subject of game balance, I think the classes in general are all well thought out and fun to play. Each has its niche in the game. But one suggestion here is to work on tweaking the Soldier class a bit more. For instance, ever since the last patch when Grenade Spam (GS) got nerfed, every soldier in the game put those points into Burning Bullets. When everyone in the community ignores an ability like GS then there is definitely a balance issue. (Personally, as someone who both used and died as a result of GS, I thought it was perfect the way it was. I disagree with those who think GS was overpowered.) Another character issue I'd like to see somehow improved is the level system. The system itself works fine, and getting a Hero Pint every even level is a great reward. But the odd levels offer nothing, which makes getting through them a grind. I would at least like to see some other clothing options open at the odd levels. The first 14 levels are pretty easily obtained, so implementing odd-level rewards form 15-30 would suffice. The maps are all well-planned and fun to play. There is always an element that hates the infantry maps or the vehicle maps, but IMHO the devs are doing the maps right--keep up the good work! At first I didn't like the Battlefunds system, especially since items expired. But now that Battlefund items are permanent I've actually bought a few things for each of my characters. Changing their appearances amuses me, and I figure the way it's currently priced it's a small way to support ongoing development of the game. I'm not sure how much I'll buy in the future, but so far I've spent about $25 on Battlefunds. (BTW, if items were made to expire again, I would NOT buy/spend any Battlefunds.) My biggest disappointments are centered on the chat feature and hackers. First, the chat issue. There are a LOT of immature people who, due the anonymity of the Internet, think it is funny to behave as if they have no social conscience whatsoever. I see a lot of profanity, racial slurs, etc, in chat that I would rather not be subjected to. No matter how much fun the game is, it only takes one such person in chat to ruin it for me. Therefore I would like to see a feature in the controls to disable chat. I don't need to read what other people are saying to enjoy the game. Additionally, even though the game has an ESRB of "16+", let's face it--it's a cartoon shooter, and it's going to appeal to a very broad audience. My 8-year-old son is fascinated with the game, and every time he sees me playing he asks me if he can try it. Unfortunately I always have to tell him no, because I don't want him to be exposed to some of the vulgarities I've seen in chat. My second disappointment is of course the hackers. During closed beta there was a proliferation of them. Since open beta began I've encountered less of them, but I think it's because the influx of new players "diluted" the hacker community. In other words, I know the hackers are still playing (I've encountered a few lately), but so far I've been fortunate enough to not run into many of them. I'm always for more stringent control to minimize cheating. I could care less if cheaters are getting 10x more points, but when they are doing it at my expense--ie killing me repeatedly and in ways from which there is no defense--the game quickly loses its charm and I turn it off. But even with its shortcomings, BFH is easily my favorite game right now. And with more maps and the metagame, I think it will be a favorite for a long time to come.

However, the balence between characters needs work, and I often play matches where there are twice as many nationals as royals, which is very discuraging |
