This is somewhat untrue... BF1942 (for example) gave users full modding tools which is why many user made releases were created. A modern example is the game Minecraft. The developers of minecraft would never have the resources to release all of the things that modders continues to make every day. If minecraft didn't give their users the ability to make mods, it would never have been the same kind of game it is today, with server plugins and TNT mods and whatnot

Back to point, if BFH gave users the ability to make such mods, nothing would be a *major pain to develop* because everyone would be creating mods and boosting the community. Thats why MC and BF1942 were/are both such successful games.

But you are forgetting that BFH does not do that, all content is dev made only. Your point is based on 'some games' but BFH doesnt use community made mods.

My point is that if it weren't dev only, it would not take this long to create content because there will be people out there with superb design skills and a love for BFH who, for no pay, will create amazing content that devs will merely have to approve of and implement into the game.

We'll probably just get one free hat, new clothes, the map and a Funds sale, really.

Selling/Trading items would result in a lot of exploitation, loss of revenue for EAsy, the store and item system is just not designed for an open market. (Don't think it will ever happen)

I have yet to hear conformation that the Turbans are actually buggy. Everyone just blindly says "oh they're buggy" without specifying as to what bugs they actually cause. I know for sure that the original Brontos cause game crashes and the Diver Helmets have clipping issues (And that's a no-no because our current outfits are totally free of clipping, yeah...).

And it's just as to what my "ideal" update would be. And hey, look at TF2. I've been playing that for years and in the beginning, I would've NEVER imagined being able to trade gear, and now look at it. A few updates and now it has its own bloody economy which has exploded thanks to open trading. The game's popularity has skyrocketed to the point where it's been MADE free to play. And of course there's exploitation, but if your case is strong enough, most issues are resolved by Valve's customer service.

The point is. We're THREE official years into this game... we really need some massive, massive updates and changes to breathe some life into BFH and make the experience fresh and exciting again. Trading, meta game, new class, new abilities, SOMETHING.

We don't need a physical countdown timer to call this a countdown thread. It's something to keep us preoccupied whilst we wait for the update whilst we countdown the days till it happens in our heads. Nevertheless I'll make one because you are a bully. Anyway the tag - [Something to keep us preoccupied due to lack of interesting discussion regarding the June 25th Update] seemed rather long and cynical.

http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/cust...=00&p0=239

This may or may not be accurate. Blame Groonz if it's not, praise a homeless person if it is. They need the love anyway. If it is accurate however - woot less than a day.

Firstly, the reason why nobody gives details on how the turbans are buggy is because no details have been released. the Dev team have stated that it is buggy and that is that, nobody else knows any more.
also, I want an open market just as much as you do, but there are certain practical elements that will make it defunct. For example, much of EAsys cash is coming from long term players who buy outfits and weapons and then replace them. A trading system would mean that some players would never have to buy more funds, but simply trade their existing items for others. This would be okay in a game such as TF2, with a crafting and membership system, but it would not work as well in BFH. There is a pattern with open market games, and that is either an alternate main source of revenue or a gigantic item pool.

I'd like to see your said confirmation from the devs. I spoke to VB on our Candied Bacon podcast and he confirmed both the reasoning behind the Diving Helmets and later the Brontos. Source can be found in my signature below.

The rest of what you say however is true. Adding a trading system would up a whole new dynamic for BFH. Is this dynamic good in this instance however? Easy have stuck to a very formulaic way of making their moolah since Christmas '09. This has been driving new players to the game ever since, with new knights, astronauts and more reskins than we can poke a stick at. We just only recently hit 12 million registrations, not too long after me and Rabbit snatched ourselves a 10000000 T-Shirt. So why would one break from this said formula? Easy been riding the "long term people buy our content" horse for an extended period of time now and this said horse is steadily running out of apples to keep it propped and healthy. Trading is not exactly the best way in my opinion. It's like injecting the horse with a serum that makes it behave weird and pee on your foot. It would create the existence of an economy, the chat would become cluttered with a proverbial myriad of kids going "trade me this, trade me that". The forums would become cluttered with "He ripped me off" and "Is this a good deal?" threads. It's probably not even worth the ensuing chaos.

Gifting however seems very popular with the masses. Although it is still nearly 1 degree away from trading. And some of the scenarios I mentioned above will have a viable chance to play out.

Gifting wouldn't work as people would abuse things like 3000 fund codes by creating alt accounts, redeeming codes, buying the item and then *gifting* it to their main

That's essentially what I was describing in my post. It's not going to work all to well. If you read the Gifting thread however, MattyG's proposed taxing system does sound like somewhat of a fix.

(20-02-2010 05:17 AM)MattyG Wrote:  This idea and the referral system

This topic has been around before the referral system, which now puts a few holes in this suggestion. Here's my fix to cover these holes up:

The idea of gifting BF makes it so it gets sent to your friend's account the instant you pay for it. Buying BF on a alternative referral account for item gifting is actually more expensive - there is additional tax to pay for, and the person doing so may as well buy BF's for their main account.

Also, we'll make it so reffed friends buying BF for other friends or for you will not give you your 700 bonus BF.

If somebody abused this to say, get weapons and shift them to their main account, bear in mind that a super weapon, with 25% tax, will cost them 700 BF for each one, therefore 2800 BF = 4 supers whilst you can get five without trading. The extra 700 BF they get from reffing in the first place would be demolished if there was either a higher tax rate for super/uber weapons, the tax rate for converting to pilfered/stolen was factored in, and/or the other player had to pay a portion of the tax, if not the full 10-30% again should EA decide to implement that in.

Meh, they have been promising new mission system for years already...

And really...

6 months to make a map?

I know mod teams that make maps 3 times bigger and of better quality for less time than those lazy bums at EAsy... Dodgy

Well at least they started exploring new concepts such as low gravity etc.
