no offense intended, but please please please keep playing for a few hours more and come back and tell us your results. I've done this manually (not using CCleaner) and it worked great for an hour or so (a few maps at least) but then it started happening again and still does, so I'm curious if your fix will work, but not curious enough to waste my time AGAIN uninstalling/reinstalling. Thanks Smile

I did that last week and after 2 hours or so PB22 would pop back up. However, over the week PB 22 would show up at sporadic times.

Yesterday I was playing and noticed I didn't have any of the 5 second freezes on Coastal Clash, but I did on Buccaneer Bay. However I switched characters and he got the 5 second freezes on both maps.

Ok, updated punkbuster manually but am now getting further problems. Whenever i log onto a character on the game i get the message: BFHeroes.exe has stopped working etc. etc. Its very annoying. I got on once but a manual update didnt seem to help.

i can play on my laptop without any problems (windows 7 build 7100, 32 bit, 3gb ram, nvidia 9600 gt)
but if i want to play on my desktop computer (windows 7 build 7201, 64 bit, 4 gb ram, ati x1950xtx) i get the 22-pb-error. i can't update the graphic drivers, because after ati ccc 9.3 was released, no driver for my gc has been released?!
it's possible that it's the 64-bit OS in connection with the ati-gc that causes problems.
though i did everything in this thread to get it working, nothing ever succeeded.
guess it's just a big ball of incompatibility.

The pb_sleep trick (+updating pb) seems to have fixed the 22 problem for me, at least for now (it's been working fine for the last 2-3 days or so).

All this PB problem make that "BFH is targeting casual player" gimmick such a joke now. Even hardcore player felt pain in the a-ss if they encounter PB problem and it's hard to diagnosis as well as solve those problem.

I tried almost everything in the forum and still no luck, the longest I can stay in the game is 1 min. And really, there is no point to waste my valuable time in trying to fix their problem in my end. I mean they get pay to make the blo-ody program, so fix the fu-cking thing.

Dude I understand your anger. I'e had problems since the begining. Battlefield 2142 had the same problem and I dont remember how we got around it. But the punkbuster 22 issue is really annoying!
Why does EA stick with punkbuster if the damn program keeps busting honest players in all their games!?Angry

Well since the thread for log posting is closed, I've decided to post here.

I looked through my logs and found this message:
WARNING: CRITICAL ERROR: Failed to Register Service (ffa9)

Apparently that is something that seems very important, but I have no idea how to fix it. :C

Obviously, eveyone getting kicked by PB is a hacker. I didn't realize I was hacking, but since I'm getting kicked by punkbuster, I must be. The problem isnt with punkbuster, its with all the people who hack without knowing they are. Seriously people, MS word IS a hack. Deal wit hthe fact that punkbuster knows this and will kick you for having it installed.
*I am NOT telling you to uninstall MS word, that won't do anything*

guess it's just a big ball of incompatibility.

I've also got the Windows 7 64-bit OS and I've only got the game working once for an hour without being constantly punted by Punkbuster for that (22) error that everyone is getting. That was when I followed someone's suggestions about deleting IE8, uninstalling everything to do with the game (client, punkbuster, registries), and running Firefox in Administration mode to install and play the game. Also, I changed to a different character than what I had originally (was playing as a National but switched to a Royal) and low and behold, I was able to play for an hour or so without getting kicked.

Unfortunately, when I logged out and tried to sign back in, I was getting PunkBusted like there was no tomorrow.

So with that said, I can't say that it's the 64-bit architecture in Windows 7 because it WAS working but there's obviously something else that's hindering everyone to play.

Hey all,

Umm yea so my method a couple of pages back was working for me for like an hour, i came back today and it was (22) again, restarted my comp and updated and so far smooth sailing. I would say the biggest thing is the restart, seems key... when you manually update, try a restart as well and it should fix it.

Hope that helps, ill keep posting if i encounter more issues, but the pb_sleep on a previous page seems to be promising and ill try it if it screws up again

Haal.

(18-06-2009 10:19 PM)baaa Wrote:  A POSSIBLE FIX FOR THIS PB 22 ERROR:

Some background:
PB has always given me problems in EVERY game where it's has been used. In BF2 console command pb_sleep 500 command has helped me...

7 Steps that might save your day:
1. Manually update your PB (use PBSETUP, you can download it and read the instructions from http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php ).
2. Check that your firewall allows PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe (located in C:\WINDOWS\system32, at least on 32 bit XP) use connections freely.
3. ***THE NEW STEP***
Go to your PB directory (you will find it in your BF Heroes game directory). Create a new text file into this pb directory. Name that new file to "pbcl.cfg" (without the quotes). Write into this file one line:
pb_sleep 500
Save file.
4. Close all programs that are not really needed.
5. Start the BF Heroes. Play as many rounds as you can.
6. REPORT HERE IF THIS HELPED YOU OR NOT, PLEASE.
7. Optional step: If this trick helped you, write a post to this thread "DICE: Please donate some BattleFunds to user 'baaa' for fixing the most annoying bug in your game." Wink

I have managed to play five full rounds without a kick after I added this new cfg-file. There is still lag spikes but still I havent been kicked out. Smile

Tried updating PB, tried reinstalling BFHeroes and then updating PB, and finally tried this trick. None of these worked, although after adding the pb_sleep file I was able to play for an hour or two until I got kicked.

Hi, I thought I'd chime in and say that this worked fairly well for me. I still get kicked but far less frequently. Now I can go two or three rounds without the PB 22 error. Thanks. Here's what I've done so maybe doing all of them will help:

Reinstall BFH (takes a long time though)
Disable telemetry reporting
Uninstall IE 8
updating PB
pb_sleep 500
