"Failed to download" is the key part of this error message.
Something is blocking the download or the request timed out because your internet was busy doing other things. Try again after temporarily disabling your Firewall and Antivirus. If the download works, turn them back on when the download is complete. Shut down any unnecessary background processes that may use bandwidth. Other downloads, ICQ, other web browsers, etc... Don't forget, if you are running Vista or 7, you need to install the game with a browser that has administrative privileges. - Log out and close all web browser windows. - Open a new one by right clicking on your browsers icon, and choosing Run As-> Administrator S |

It's an Instant messenger program.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICQ Just shut down anything you do not need while downloading that may use your internet. S |

I got this same message when trying to update two days ago and everytime I've tried since. Here's what I've tried so far:
1. Uninstalled the game using control panel, uninstalled the plug in on Firefox, used cCleaner on registry and applications, ran as administrator and hit play now. download stalled partway into download, say 30mg at file:archive.md5. download of first bit really fast at roughly 10mbps, ie in under 30 seconds then hung for half an our or so then recieved "an error occured: failed to download":-/ 2. drifted through forums for half a day looking at suggestions 3. Deleted the files from C:/programmes/EA Games/battlefield heroes, uninstalled the the plug in from firefox, ran the cCleaner application for registry and cache etc, turned off windows firewall and mcAfee firewall, realtime scanner and anything else I could find, made sure monitor was set at 60hz in properties, ran firefox as admin, logged in and hit play now. same as before, until error message (tried this a couple of times). ![]() 4. Repeat step 3 for IE and downloaded chrome to try as well, same results. grrrrr - ![]() 5. Run windows update and then try step 3&4 again for all browsers, same results ![]() 6. Tried downloading .Net framework 3.5 SP1, then step 3&4, same results ![]() ![]() 7. another windows update to get .net framework 4 then step 3&4, same results ![]() ![]() ![]() 8. tried 2&3 in safe mode but couldn't get wireless modem to go 9. went through services and stopped a couple that looked like they weren't needed. tried and got same result. 10. had a complete spaz cause nothing was working and nearly heaved computer out window ![]() 11. last resort - ask for help and here I am. Most of the above seems to have worked for everyone else but I keep getting same result so must be something interfering or missing. Here is my info - I hope someone can pick whats wrong as i am obviously a bit tech challenged ![]() DxDiag.txt (Size: 62.65 KB / Downloads: 8)
hijackthis.log (Size: 10.6 KB / Downloads: 7)
Thanks in advance |

Thanks Mebes for taking time to help - big ups to you!!
Went through services and disabled about 30!! obviously needed a good clean out. Did same with McAfee services and got all but one. There was a lock on the McAfee process validation service though so will try uninstalling Mcafee completely tomorrow as still had same trouble. Really odd. Will let you know how I get on..... |
