I use the lrsmg on my royal, and lr pistol on nat. Sadly, im more satisfied with the lrsmg. More ammo, keeps on target, bigger crosshair.....but thats just me.

Overall, the VLR pistol is way more accurate than the LR SMG.
Although the LR SMG has an automatic rate of fire, if you jam the fire button fast enough, the VLR pistol ends up being faster than the SMG. You don't need THAT much more skill to use the pistol (average accuracy among players is .3-.4, higher than the average LR SMG accuracy of +- .25) Only advantage to the LR SMG is the 300% bigger clip and it's compatible with BB |

LR Pistol is great! You will deal an average of 15 damage per shot, not including critical hits! You can kill a gunner when he is at full health with a LR pistol if you are good. I use LR pistol on my soldier and commando. I use knife/LR pistol with my commando. Knives are awesome, and I use the pistol against snipers, and soldiers who use Blasting Strike on me. I also use Elixir to get away from knifers, and then kill them with my pistol as they try to get in range. LR pistol is awesome!

Those are both very significant advantages though, especially taking on multiple enemies or if you dont have near perfect aim. BB3 - the most common setting - does close to 30 damage which is nothing to sneeze at. Ive played with the pistol for a long time, enjoy using it much more than LR SMG, and have retained it with one (soldier) character even at the cost of being more effective, but in my mind there's no doubt that the LR SMG is better overall, even after the nerf. As Ive said elsewhere, Ive noticed that even avowed pistol lovers usually have a better weapon-specific KDR with the LR SMG than the pistol, even if they are usually more accurate with the latter (mine for example is 3.5 and 21% vs 2.5 and 28%, and that is a fairly typical pattern). This is especially the case if you're the type to strafe and fight in the open instead of working mainly from cover - the LR SMG often outfights the SR SMG at medium range whereas its much harder to deal with a strafing soldier or a leg-it gunner with the pistol. In fact it is so effective at medium range that I go OK using it with the SR shotgun (which has very short range), whereas when I used the shotty with the pistol I found that I had to hide a lot because there was a significant range in which neither weapon was particularly effective. |
