punkbuster 22 fix taken from my evenbalence ticket...

After alot of headaches and head scratching (and sometimes banging head on keyboard) i eventually sent a ticket to even balence. I had avoided it before but figured, if im checking a bunch of threads and spend this much time trying not to get booted, may as well send in my ticket. I read alot of horror stories about even balence's lack of support. Luckily (at least in my case) this was not the case at all. I was responded to daily by a support guy (adam d).

Going to post my ticket here. So far the pbsvc has worked out rather well for me. I still had to manually update punkbuster using the regular pbsetup after uninstall/reinstall with pbsvc, but so far so good...fingers remain crossed.

Im going to leave out the parts where i sent compatability tests, etc. unless you guys just want me to post them. Hopefully this may save alot of you a few headaches. This thread is mainly for ppl who searched the forums already and havent been able to solve their pb problem.

Note #2: Please check your ../Heroes/pb folder for a file called pbcl.log If you have hidden your file extensions, please make sure you open pbcl.log and not pbcllog.cfg! or pbcl.db Paste the line from there into a new note.

Please note: Windows Vista (and above) users will find that file under "C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Local\PunkBuster\Heroes\pb". To find that folder, enter "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\PunkBuster\Heroes\pb" to the navigation bar in your Windows Explorer, as some folders in this path might be hidden folders. Unless you activated the option to see hidden folders, you will need to enter the correct path directly into the navigation bar.

Note #4: Please download the latest PBSVC installer from the following link.

Uninstall, install, then press the "Test Services" button. Copy-paste the entire output from the "Test Services" window in a new note.

To run PBSVC under Windows Vista and above you will need to run the game as an administrator. To do this, right-click on the pbsvc.exe icon and select "Properties", then the "Compatibility" tab. From that tab, check the box labeled "Run this program as an Administrator" and click OK. You need to follow these steps, even when you are logged in as admin, else the game will be started in user mode.

Please check if you have allowed PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB in your Windows firewall (if enabled). Please go the Start menu and navigate to the Control Panel. Open the Windows Firewall icon and go to the "Exceptions" tab. Check if both checkboxes for PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB are checked.

Also provide which anti-virus and/or firewall program you are running. You might have to allow both PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe with full permissions in your security software.

So far so good still. I get the occasional DC, but no more punkbuster problems as of yet. Im still keeping my ticket open and ill repost it here in case that helps anyone else, should something else occur. I know how annoying it can be if you cant play(especially if you've spent money on the game).

P.S After resent update I've been kicked at least 5-8 times, "punkbuster (22)" error. Very annoying.

....arrrrgh...i dunno if it has anything to do with the update or not, but as of about 8pm tonight(my time, eastern/US) i cant get a game to play to save my life. I think i may have completed a whole ROUND once without any problems.

Now, if it isnt the pb 22 error it is the disconnected from server error 3 and i am getting veeeeeeeery upset about my recent purchace of BF. Im willing to have patience but here lately it seems i am trying to fix this thing more then i am actually playing it. Im pretty POSITIVE its not a problem on my end. This thing used to run fine. Good thing i left my ticket open at even balence. I'll still post my ticket updates as i get them.

This is not from my even balence ticket, however the support guy has already responded today and asked for more tests. I'll still keep posting them as he replies.

Ive just tried another fix from a guy that has posted a punkbuster 22 fix and it actually worked for me. The author of the post's name is DieSniper and the title of the post is titled "Punkbuster 22 kick? (try this fix)". Here is the link

Played it for a whole round and no boots for pb 22. Its the only FULL round of BFH ive been able to play almost all day long.

Scratch that...today, same issues...seems like everytime you find a way to fix punkbuster(or at least tweek CERTAIN SETTINGS so it'll let you PLAY) the next day it returns and finds new reasons to boot you...seriously.

did you download whatever dinky little program that may or may not have updated?....BOOTED
Did you reinstall the game? reinstall punkbuster?....as if it really matters.........BOOTED
did you send a ticket to even balence? sit patiently and wait for us to send you more suggestions to get you....................................BOOTED

I am such an idiot for spending money on this glitchy game. In my defence, sometimes after i have tried the suggestions to keep pb from booting me, they have worked for a while....like...a whole day maybe...then its back spending the rest of my time finding ways not to get...you guessed it...BOOTED.


I hate to say this but i've actually played with the thought of HACKING...why? because hackers are the only ones who seem to be getting to have all the fun on the game....everyone else gets BOOTED. Of course i wont lower myself to that standard...but still...very disheartening that every day, same problems.

Still waiting on Mr.Adam D to get back to me on my evenbalence ticket for today. I'll post it as soon as he replies with something other then "go into this folder and paste what it says on a new note".

Right now im re-dowloading the game and trying a different order in the way i reinstall the pbsetup and the pbsvc. Since i havent tried REiNSTALLING the GAME (argh...) since the update, im going solely on the fact that when i tried reinstalling it in the past...well...at least it let me play a couple of hours w/o giving me the boot.

I also notice a brand new glitch in the game (hence why im reinstalling) that started today. My hero's face that shows in the upper left hand corner, right next to the green bar that shows how much more until your next lvl, is not my hero's face...as a matter of fact, its a different hero entirely and in most cases, not even the type of hero i am (im a national, but the hero's face in the upper left is a blond headed royal). All the clothes and everything show up on my guy, its just the face in the upper left....kinda weird.

So here i am...reinstalling again because my best educated guess is some folder off somewhere didnt update with the update correctly and since punkbuster isnt working anyway, may as well reinstall that too.

If i were an advertising guy for punkbuster, i would use the slogan....

"PUNKBUSTER....we'll FIND a way to boot you"

reinstalled the game/punkbuster and noticed the face in the upper right hand corner still isnt right. Looks like my royal gunner's face, and the hero im playing is my main national gunner (he has a vampire face).

No pb boots as of yet (but its probibly just a matter of time...not getting my hopes up). I get a connection to server (3) about every other round...but no pb boots.

So far punkbuster still seems to be kicking more than punks...myself included. While nothing has worked so far, i will still post the replies from my evenbalence(that name still cracks me up because ITS ANYTHING BUT!) ticket in hopes that it may help someone else.

Note #13: Still getting kicked afterwards. Says i am having packet loss (PnkBtrB packet) on the game screen right before i get booted. this usually happens on the 2nd or so round i play. I ran a ping test but the test says i have grade A connection.

Note #12: Please delete the PB folder from the game installation, then run PBSetup and let it check for updates. Make sure you don't run PBSetup from inside the PB folder.

Note #10: also, and i forgot to ask this earlier, what settings can you suggest(as far as performance, etc) that may make the game run smoother. Seems to glitch out then kick me for whatever reason(usually punkbuster 22 error or connection 3 error)...mostly punkbuster 22 error.

....again, this is a temp fix i have already tried that didnt work for me more then a short while. If it isnt pb 22 it'll go right back to booting me with a connection 3 error.
Ive spent more time trying to get this game to work then i have actually playing it i think. Worked fine until i purchased battlefunds (I can assure you i would not have purchased them otherwise) and now ive all but given up.

Ran ping test, says i have grade A connection.
Downloaded driver updates
downloaded various programs
cursed the gods
made a mental note to never play another online game that has anything to do w/punkbuster...because any other online game i play doesnt have these errors

Actually considered hacking for a moment...the hackers are the only ones that seem to have all the fun here. That, however, would lower me as a player...i'd rather keep my integrity.

Btw: I'm getting kicked since today all the time too. And yes, I still get freezes in the seldom rounds I'm permitted to play. Maybe I should get some hacks to solve the problem.... maybe....

Way to investigate the pb problem. Ive got a few friends who complain about the pb problem on other BF games...lol...I guess thats why they cant get me to join them on the other versions and why i cant get them to come here.

Before i downloaded the game, i read a reveiw ( I think it was MMO Hut or something) and under the pros and cons section, the only con was "uses punkbuster as anti-cheat system"...which at the time i had never played a game with punkbuster so i didnt think it was any big deal...Little did i know...

Also, i didnt think about this before i posted the last EB ticket responce...BUT YOU CANT DELETE THE WHOLE PB FOLDER WITHOUT SAVING THE PBSVC_heroes(to your desktop or somehwere) BEFORE YOU DO! When you try to run the game w/o it you will get an error even if you reinstalled everything else (pbsetup, pbsvc) and run the updates.

You'd think tech support at evenbalence would know that...so now my confidence in them is getting reeeeeeeeaaally shackey.
