Even if the image is in grayscale, you'd still be able to see detail in it.
Perhaps the photographer caught the image as the balaclava was beginning to fall off, blurring the spot and explaining the loss of detail.
The balacalava (That has not even been confirmed to exist) would've have fallen off before he came into the frame.
You're not shooting any explanations yourself. They're your family photos after all.
I'm still gonna go with electrician. He wasn't well liked so they blurred him out.
I don't consider it necessary to explain anything about my family.

He's not an electrician.

You don't have to be related to be family either.
He's been at that house longer then almost everyone.

Having video feed of your every action is different then having your picture posted somewhere.
