Pretty simple question. Which Soldier abilities are recommendable?

Also, are Hero Points refundable?
all HP are 100% refundable anytime you want. Just click the little arrows in the top right corner of the ability box.

Soldier abilities- What i suggest is to max out Combat medicine first due to its ability to save your life and the life of others.
From there one could either get Grenade Spam or Burning Bullets, or really whatever you desire. Try to find a build that suits you, because hey! HP are refundable!

yup totally refundable, there's a button in "my abilities"

dont' underestimate 6th sense, knowing where everyone is can be great, know the other team is behind a building facing the other way, toss grenade spam and shotgun blast them before they know what's going on.

I atm have BulletsOKelly built with two ranks in Combat medicine, two in grenade spam, and one in 6th sense.

Max Blasting Strike if you want a fun, unmainstream, yet surprisingly effective character build. It's an unconventional approach to battle. Unconventional means more grey hair to your enemy.

Concider investing only one ability point in Grenade Spam, or maxing it very late in the character progress. I'm level 24 and I have had level 1 Grenade Spam since the early levels. You can counter Grenade Spam and tons of other maneuvers with Blasting Strike. Investing only one ability point in Grenade Spam, opens a door for other unmainstream character builds. Investing more points than one in 6th Sense can be argued, but you could try an interesting combination of Blasting Strike, 6th Sense and Burning Bullets. I for one have found Burning Bullets the least appealing ability in the collection of Soldier abilities, but perhaps you're more creative than me in that department.
If you want to rock VV, you will have to put 5 HP into GS. Its the best skill to deal decent area damage from save distance for a soldier. But in 1 on 1 situations, or in situations where you need a tactical advantage like splitting up the enemy lines, BS is best, just like Bernhardt said in the post above. And plus: its much more fun Wink

My Build (Best one in my opinion)

Start like this

+1 - Heal (You can easily wait a bit to fully heal urself, max later)
+5 - Grenade Spam (This thing lvl 5 (maxed) is like uber powerfull)
+1 - 6th Sense (You dont really need more then 1 in this, but u can do b4 GS)
---------------------------------Lvl 12---------------------------------
+4 - Heal
+4 - 6th sense
+X - What ever you want


Just with these skills your pretty mutch the best a soldier skill can be and adding more skills would just make you slower on ur keyboard, so just max out Heal and 6th sense and ur good, even if u get burning bullet or the blast thingy, where would you put it on ur key board, key 7 and 8 ? thats not very easy to hit those in middle of combat, and Grenades Spam, heal, 6th sense are mutch better.
What i recommend you to do is to never listen to anyone else. You should experiment and find your own style. Personally I find all these guides unnecessary unless your new to the game and dont know what all the abilities do. So just try all abilities and if you dont like them, just take back your hp and put it in something fun. And, though grenade spam is good, a good aim is better. So dont rely on abilities but on your own core skill. Abilities will change but your core skill will remain the same or get better.

Well the great thing is that you can reassign your points and try out different builds.
I actually enjoy looking over some guides, just to hear how other players take on a class, it's interesting, but yes, mostly all that matters is you listen to yourself and figure out what works for you.
I know a lot of "hardcore" gamers push that whole "you must play this way for max efficiency" as if there is only one way to play, but blah, that's stupid.

For me so far I value combat medicine because it bolsters the overall team along with me.
Grenade spam not just as a way to damage but as a way to herd the enemy or fluster them.
6th sense to give your team an edge on the battlefield.

I haven't tried burning bullets or blasting strike yet but intend to after reading some of these, see what it's like.
I took grenade spam lvl 5 with me a for a long time, but i think it's the most boring ability of all the soldier abilities. Taking Blasting strike after that really made me happy again. Most people say grenade spam is the best because of its high damage but throwing knife commies dead against a house is way more fun ^^
to be honest, it is quite easy to evade a GS for a decent player.
GS isn't as useful now, people can avoid it better/Gunners using IEG, I switched to Burning Bullet.
Nade spam is still the best, what are you guys talking about?
Can be used as a temporary superpowered troop trap that instakills soldiers and commandos. It can be used to hold of a whole bunch of enemys at one time, or jsut to blow them all up.

That aside: A good soldier build is a mix of everything. Nadespam to hit behind corners and or provide artillery support, burning bullet to mark commandos and strike terror in people, blasting strike to avoid being knifed by commandos and of course healing to keep the team alive.
What level you use on each skill is up to you but I like maxed nade spam because I'm a huge noob that likes to kill fast.
I'm just level 11 atm but this will be my build @ level 30:

5/5 Blasting strike
5/5 Combat Medicine
4/5 Grenade Spam
1/5 Burning Bullets
1/5 Sixth Sense

My current build:

1/5 Burning Bullets
1/5 Grenade Spam
4/5 Combat Medicine

After 5/5 Combat Medicine I'll go with either one point in SS then max BS or put a few points in BS then put one point in SS before putting more points in BS. GS is for the last levels. Level 1 GS is fine, you can easily finish them off with your smg (+ BB if you want). More is overkill but works great too. For my playstyle this build (even at level 11) works great 1vs1 and 1vs2+. I feel like a slaughtering machine in the field. Always try to heal next to your teammates and use bandages to get more points faster.

More points in SS or BB is unnecessary imo. They don't scale well compared to the other abilities.

I like Burning Bullets (as I've been playing with it lately) also for long distance hits, you just need to tag them with one bullet and they're lit up, guaranteed damage over time.

While we're talking what are you guy's personal takes on weapons to use for soldier over all strategy wise? So far I've not spent one VP, and thinking I'll finally try some of the optional weapons.

I've tried 5/5 in GS but I've found the CM to help me more than the GS in the long run. Maybe it's my playstyle, maybe I just a bad tosser. Pun intended. >)

I use fast smg and slow pistol. Fast smg because I fight mostly close-mid fights, shotguns pwn in close fights but lose to the smg when the range is a little bit more imo. It might be just me that can't aim with the shotty though. Slow pistol for picking off snipers and everyone else. It's really super accurate.
huh...I've never used one of the pistols
