Hey Heroes ...
Before you invest your time in reading all that I have to say, let me tell you that there are no conclusive answers here. With that said, I've been trying to diagnose this Punkbuster thingy for some time. You all know what's been going on in your games, that new map hang, the lag spikes, the high ping, the eventual (22) kick, because of one of the aforementioned. Then, there are some of you that don’t have these issues … This is very odd to me, because if it’s Punkbuster, it should affect everyone, yeah? With my long time professional computer career and experience, I’ve been trying to diagnose and resolve these issues that have plagued this game. I thought I was onto something with Internet Explorer 8 ; http://www.battlefieldheroes.com/forum/s...?tid=37638 though, it’s just a piece of the puzzle, not the fix. I have several machines to work with at home; here is my desk currently; ![]() I had examined settings on various machines … My laptops play the game with no lag, no hang on a new map, no high ping, no Punkbuster kick, no lag spikes … All smooth. They have low end cards, wifi internet 54.mps. So why some machines and not others? I had been removing things from my system to see if there were conflicts, yet, I was going about it the wrong way. So I grabbed a 40gig drive I had, put that in my case and made a fresh OS. Here is exactly the steps I took; 1. Turned Network OFF 2. Fresh install XP OS CD -On / ASUS A7N8X-E Motherboard -With / Phoenix – Award Bios -With / Athlon XP 3200 + -With / 2.560g DDR RAM -With / SoundBlaster Live 5.0 PCI -With / USB Port HUB x4 PCI -With / 3Com EtherLink XL 10/100 PCI 3. Installed OS successfully 4. Reboot 5. Changed XP theme to NONE 6. Loaded ATI video Drivers -For / Gigabyte ATI Radeom HD4850 -With one gig on board memory ram 7. Loaded Direct X 9 Drivers 8. Reboot 9. Installed XP Service Pack 2 KB940057 10. Reboot 11. Installed XP Service Pack 3 KB936929 12. RebootInstalled ZoneAlarm -Defense net off -Manual settings -Setup Programs Automatic 13. Reboot 14. Turned Network ON 15. Activated ZoneAlarm 16. Installed IE7 (IE6 onboard) 17 Reboot 18. Went to BFH website -Installed Adobe ActiveX -Installed Adobe Flash player 10.0.22.87 -Installed Game -Installed Required ActiveX 19. Placed BFH in trusted setting in ZA w/access interaction 20. Assigned PB A trusted setting in ZA w/acess interaction 21. Assigned PB B trusted setting in ZA w/acess interaction 22. Launched BFH Set game to 800 x 600 60Hz w/low Joined a Branzone server VV - intro lag, spikes, 22 kick Set game to 1020 x 740 70Hz w/med Joined JFT server BB - Intro lag, spikes, high ping Set game to 1280 x 1027 70Hz w/high Joined server (?) CC – NO intro lag, high ping, 22 kick Set Game 1600 x 1200 70Hz w/high Joined server (?) SS - Intro lag, spikes Set game to 1900 x 1200 60Hz w/high Joined server (?) BB - Intro Lag, high ping Set game to 1900 x 1200 60Hz w/high Joined server (?) BB - intro lag, spikes, 22 kick After a clean install of the OS, with nothing but Zone Alarm (in game mode) … I still got the New Map hang (intro lag), lag spikes, high ping and error 22 kicks. I’m concluding that as much as it’s NOT Punkbuster, it IS! My other systems don’t have this problem, why? After a fresh install and a clean system, errors, why? It’s not the game, it runs great, but not after June 11th, why? I’m at my wits end! I’m on the verge of getting on the roof with a rifle and thinning out the neighborhood! But, before I do that, another observation; Many have said that they lag right when they’re in a fight and usually freeze (and find themselves dead). Yes, me ![]() |
