I got that same bug, my hero was lvl 6 and now its 16 and i didnt get any ability points more so this really sucks

Hiya, currently I am not able to tell you whether this will be fixed or if you will get any refunds for the lost XP-Boost. Since the developers are offline at the weekend I'll poke them tomorrow. Until then you have to be patient, I'm afraid.
